C.H.A.S.E - Citizens for a Health and Safe Environment
About Us
Citizens for a Healthy and Safe Environment (CHASE) was formed in 2010 by long term civil rights activists and Lithonia residents. When residents learned about a proposed biomass plant for their small city, they mobilized themselves and defeated the plant. The group’s initial meetings were hosted by Johnny Doherty who is now deceased. CHASE has achieved many victories in their quest to protect and advocate for those individuals who feel they don’t have a voice. CHASE has fought polluting industries proposed for communities of color, overburdened, rural and disenfranchised neighborhoods. CHASE became an official chapter of Blue Ridge Environmental Defense League in 2014. CHASE believes that everyone has the potential to become leaders in their community. CHASE encourages individuals to stand for what they know will enhance and maintain healthy and safe communities, and the economy. Therefore, we work to promote solutions that address environmental, social, and economic challenges simultaneously. CHASE believes that everyone has the potential to become leaders in their community.
Our Mission
C.H.A.S.E. is an environmental advocacy organization that strives to protect the wellbeing of South DeKalb citizens and others. We advocate for policies that strive to further prevent contamination of our air, water and soil. C.H.A.S.E. educates and supports South DeKalb residents and neighboring marginalized communities on maintaining a healthy and safe environment and raising awareness of environmental issues that threaten our natural environment.
Our Impact
CHASE has achieved many victories in their quest to protect and advocate for the residents of Lithonia, Georgia. CHASE has fought industries polluting communities predominantly of color, overburdened, rural, and disenfranchised and won! CHASE encourages individuals to stand for wat they know will enhance and maintain healthy and safe communities.
